Generating Ideas
http://paper-journal.com
The paper journal was a really interesting and inspiring site to look at and I'm disappointed that I only found out about it at this late stage of the year as there are lots of images on it which i would have liked to use for inspiration for a variety of briefs throughout the year. This website was great for opening my mind about the three topics set for this brief and would certainly make me think twice before picking portrait again which i usually do because its the one i enjoy most. Below are images I picked out of the paper journal website to upload to my blog of the three different areas still life, portrait and landscape each of my images explores the topic in a unique way which is why I chose them.
Still Life
The below image of the water crashing down onto the phone is a fascinating image because its not something that would happen everyday to capture. It makes me think that because the phone is open that the person received a message or a call that they didn't like or didn't want to receive and got so annoyed that they broke it by putting it in water. The composition of the image is really interesting in that the water is splashing down at the bottom edge of the phone allowing the photographer to capture the droplets on the screen but also to allow the screen to act as a reflective material allowing us to see the tap we wouldn't ordinary see without that. Also that the phone is on top of the plug is purposely done so that water doesn't go straight down it allows the water to be captured flowing around the phone. The image really interests me as I have my imagination as to why the phone is there and I'm sure to someone else there reason is completely different.

The above image is horrifying but also draws me in. The cloth underneath the dripping blood is purposely placed there and is specifically white this in my opinion is so the blood stands out the most on white. The image is intriguing in that why would blood be collected like that and left to hung it leaves my with a cliff hanger as to whats happened but also i have a slight feeling that it isn't blood that its food colouring made to look like blood for a mystery affect.
Portrait
This image is not an ordinary portrait with the obvious reason to this being that the image is captured of the back of the head and usually a portrait is off the front profile. I don't think that the man knows that the image is being taken it looks like he is an important business man watching something on the TV in the car waiting for his driver to come and drive him to somewhere. The composition is also interesting because why would the photographer crop out the rest of the car. Why would he take it from the back it makes me think that he couldn't go to the front window because the picture isn't meant to be taken.
Landscape
The image below I class as landscape however other people may class it as a portrait this is because the computer showing the image is still life however the image being shown is a landscape. This image is the one that has most inspired out of them all to try as I had never thought of this idea before and it is really simple but really creative. Sometimes the simplest ideas are the most affective i will be certainly trying this with some of my work and maybe as a way to present my final piece. I will certainly be researching this type of work in the future.
